Once Upon a Room Grand Rapids
Karaoke has always been about more than just music. It’s about connection, community, and sharing joy with others. We love bringing people together for fun nights out, but we also love shining a light on the incredible organizations in our city that spread joy in their own unique ways. One of those is Once Upon a Room – Grand Rapids.
Who They Are
Once Upon a Room is a 100% volunteer-run 501(c)(3) serving Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital and Mary Free Bed. Their mission is simple but powerful: transform the hospital experience for children facing long-term stays.
By learning each child’s favorite themes, colors, characters, and interests, they personalize every hospital room makeover. The sterile environment becomes a comforting, joy-filled space where kids feel more at home. Even better, everything in the room is theirs to keep when they continue their recovery journey.
From bedding and lights to decorations and personal touches, every detail is chosen to brighten a child’s toughest days. It’s a simple act with a huge impact.
Our Sponsored Room
In May 2025, we proudly sponsored a room through Once Upon a Room with a $350 donation. Thanks to their incredible team of volunteers at OUR-GR, we got to see firsthand how our support helped transform a child’s space into something personal and uplifting.
Seeing the smiles and joy that came from this project was an unforgettable reminder of why community giving matters…

The Joy OUR-GR Brings
Every room is different. Some kids get a sports-themed makeover. Others light up with a princess, superhero, or cartoon theme. What they all share is the chance to feel like kids again, even in the middle of treatment.
These transformations don’t just make a hospital room look better. They give children and their families moments of peace, comfort, and happiness during a stressful and scary time.
